Charge Your Battery – Benefits of speaking in tongues!

Look at your phone and tell me what your current battery level is, seeing as it’s 2024 there is a 102% chance your phone is within reach of you at the moment! (If you falling into this category, please be honest and drop a W in the comments below next to your battery percent…and if you actually don’t have it within reach, drop a comment so I can tell you I prolly don’t believe you anyways!) With that being said, even if your phone is currently low on battery, I can imagine if you know you are going out shortly you would try to get close to a charger and get juiced up before the journey. Either to use as a GPS, to be able to call someone if an emergency arises and some of us have replaced our bank cards so having an adequately charged phone is a non negotiable.

Well, in the spiritual realm, you can think of your spirit like a phone with a battery capacity. When you engage in certain spiritual activities, you “build up a charge” and this charge as with your phone doesn’t hold forever, you have to keep topping it off to stay full.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you are more or less of a Christian, or God loves you more or less depending on your level of spiritual (or in some cases, religious) activities, far from that. We have grace and are completely loved and blessed by God based on nothing we do, only on the works of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But there is still a duty to remain faithful in prayer, in worship, in fasting and in partaking in spiritual activities. These activities empower us to live out the fullness of the life Jesus redeemed for us. As mentioned, there are a number of these activities we do that are essential to our growth and manifesting the fullness of God, but this message is focused on speaking in tongues.

Once a man of God challenged us to pick a set time, say 30 minutes and speak in tongues for 30 days straight! I took on this challenge along with some friends and I assure the difference it made in my life is still evident. Disclaimer, this is not a call to rigid religious practice of speaking in tongues without connecting your heart to God and then afterwards you comfortably get back into your life of fornication, pornography and the likes, no! The only reason, I repeat the only reason we are setting a time to this is for accountability! This time is just you promising to make yourself available to the Holy Spirit and the time can and will likely go over that, but again you’re just promising to make yourself accountable, that’s all! My Uncle-in-the-Lord Apostle Selman always talks about creating Systems and Structures to foster consistency even in spiritual things. Check out the link to his message!

In the year 2020, I wrote my new years resolution asking the Holy Spirit to help me pray for 5 minutes to begin the day and 5 minutes to end the day! That was my aim that by the end of 365 days of practice, I would have mustered the strength, discipline and consistency to have 5 minute prayers! Needless to say, I did not enjoy praying, I found it tedious and unless I was praying for something I was desperate for or was in pain with. After a few months of consistently speaking in tongues for a set time per day for months at a time, I got into a different dimension where I found joy in prayer! The best way to explain it is this, imagine an activity you like and enjoy, one that you can do for hours and you have to get reminded to eat food and go home cause you get so much joy from it. For me, one of these things is basketball, I can go hoop and just do that for hours on end without even thinking of it. Same with working on music, these things are fun and you don’t have to ask or beg me to do it, I in fact rearrange my days to ensure I’m able to squeeze out time to do these things. Well, as to no mindset shift on my own, prayer became on of those things. It was a thing of pleasure and enjoyment. I can’t explain when it happened, but I know it was a gift and I’m so grateful for it. It literally changed my life!

Another thing that I can vouch that came with this challenge is favor, I can guarantee if you were to try this you would find yourself in the midst of unexplainable favor. Unmistakeable favorable events that happen and you just know you’re operating in a cloud of favor!

With all of this considered, let me officially introduce the 30 for 30 challenge! This is a challenge to speak in tongues for at least 30 minutes a day for 30 days! We have a community where you can chat with other like minded believers like yourself, you can share the highs and lows of attempting to make yourself available consistently, any tips to adopt or any pitfalls to avoid. We see Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].” So be a friend, come sharpen your fellow believers as you strengthen yourself too!
